Disable Facebook account: Deactivating or disabling your Facebook account puts it on a break. Your profile will be removed from the site, together with most of what you posted to Facebook, messages and other things will still stick around.
Deactivation can be undone. Facebook retains your data just in case you decide to come back. Your account can be reactivated later by logging in to Facebook. If you’re not sure about a permanent decision to leave, this is a way to try the Facebook-free life before you make that final decision.
Steps to Disable your Facebook account.
- Log in to Facebook.
- At the top of your Facebook page, click the down-arrow icon, this is located far right.
- Choose Settings from the drop down menu that appears
- On the next screen select General from the list on the left side of the window.
- The deactivate option can be found in the Manage Account section.
- Once there, go to the Manage Account section at the bottom to find the option to deactivate your account.
- Click Deactivate your account to start the process.
- Facebook tries to change your mind about deactivating your account by reminding you of all your friends who will miss you when you leave.
- Facebook will also try to convince you to stay by showing you photos of your Facebook friends, you know how this works right?.
- Lastly, Facebook asks you why you want to deactivate. The actual Deactivate button is at the bottom.
- Once you tell Facebook why you don’t want to be friends anymore, click the Deactivate button, enter your password one last time, and Facebook will proceed to deactivate your account.
Remember, you can always go back by logging into Facebook. And if you have an Instagram account that’s hooked up to your Facebook one, you can keep it, but you will to severe the link between them by going to “Sharing Settings” in the Instagram app. You can disable your Facebook account and take that long needed break.
